So Mrs. 4444 hosts Friday Fragments. Always a fun way to end the week of blogging. Plus this is easier than writing a complete blog!
Everybody is talking about the Olympics. We've got the dvr set to tape tonight so we can fast forward through some of it. I really don't need to see everyone walk in. A fast forward to check out outfits works for that part.
Watch for the men's gymnastics team. It is full of our university men. Of the 8 on the team, 5 went here. Awesome.
There are also a couple of women's track and field competitors from here also. And then one of the coaches from Whitney's school is with the kayak/canoe team. Bet you didn't know that Oklahoma City is the official US Olympic training facility for rowing, canoe and kayak. They host the trials and the training. Yes in the middle of nowhere we are THE place to train.
Did you know that there are more women on the US team than men? And that women are competing in every sport that men are. They added boxing this year for women.
With the internet there is no need to wait until the evening to see who wins an event. One year I tried to avoid any news of winners but I have given up that quest. I've figured out how to watch stuff live on my computer so I can have different events going on during the workday. Doesn't mean I'm going to watch, but I can listen to it instead of music.
I had to have blood drawn this morning and this is the first time I'm going to get a bruise from it. Normally they are so gentle but this woman was pretty rough. I won't be going back there again.
I am still being successful in my quest to not turn the oven on while it is 100+ degrees outside. The crockpot and the George Foreman grill are my best friends.
I learned something today about Ramadan. I knew that they couldn't eat during the day but I didn't know that they couldn't drink anything either. Wow, with it as hot as it is, that must be tough. Our student said that you get used to it. I'm always interested to learn about other people's religions.
We'll have to start the "last meal" cycle at home. Whitney goes back to college on August 7 and there are a few meals she wants before she leaves. She says that she never gets pasta because they overcook the noodles. For the spaghetti lover that she is, it is truly a sacrifice.
I was in OKC recently and drove through the updated restaurant area (nice) with a canal/river and then further south to the rowing area. I heard the rowing area is near the not-best section of town.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the personal/local stories of the games the best.
The events in the Olympics that I enjoy I watch whether I've already heard who won them or not.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested the Olympics but only certain things.....
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I get a bruise which I did this last time I had blood drawn! She was gentle but I have weird veins!
Have a good week.....I just didn't get to do Fragments this Friday....too busy!
What did you think of the Olympic Opening Ceremony? We watched some of it and taped the rest. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have not watched the Olympics since I was a child. Yes, there was such a thing as television in my childhood. I find it boring. I like sports, even other televised sports. I have trouble with getting blood drawn as my veins are very small. I avoid people who are not skilled or compassion enough to take the time to not hurt me. Kudos to you for not returning.
ReplyDeleteNot big into the Olympics.... but Tony is. I think he may need to have the clicker surgically removed... there's sports on every channel, I'm shocked his head hasn't exploded yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't even care to watch men boxing, for sure not interested in watching women box. Yuck!
