Friday Fragments - Three Day Weekend Ahead!

I was chastised by my daughter for not posting on Wednesday for the hodgepodge questions (sorry Joyce) so I'm joining Mrs. 4444 for Friday Fragments.

Half-Past Kissin' Time

We'll start off with the stupid criminal. A woman was arrested for trying to go to high school with a fake id. She was 31 and said she was 15. Why would anyone want to go back to high school in their 30's?

I finally got my flower seeds planted this week. Dan had to till some dirt for me. In the little bit of time he was outside he got a tick. So today he will be spreading bug granules in hopes that it will rain this weekend like they say it will.

My favorite summer show starts next week. So You Think You Can Dance is mine and Whitney's staple for watching in the summer. We can't wait.

Whitney bought her plane ticket to go to New York City this week to visit her roommate who is there for a summer internship. She has been busy plotting how to go as many Broadway shows as possible. I've never been there so any guidance would be great. She will be staying near Times Square.

I'm in the process of trying to decide what I want to do in Hawaii so I can purchase our plane tickets. I'm pretty sure it will involve changing islands at some point because we really want to see the volcanoes but my meeting is in Honolulu. Thus some major planning needs to get going.

The food trucks that I mentioned on Monday will be in St. Louis this weekend. If you are around there, go check them out.

Hopefully all can enjoy a three day weekend in celebration of Memorial Day. Remember that service men and women gave their lives so that we can be free to celebrate.

The last time I was at Arlington National Cemetery.

Reflections on our Vacation

As I sit in the airport waiting for our flight (11:50pm), I'm reflecting on what I will remember from this trip.

Views of mountains like this. I'll try and remember this as we swelter in 100 degrees.

Flying in a helicopter and riding with a dogsled team. The ultimate in winter travel.

Being waited on all the time. I didn't have to do dishes, cook meals or clean up after anyone.

Watching glaciers calve right outside my window.

Wildlife everywhere you look.

A glimpse of what life is like in a place with few roads.

But what I am looking forward to most when I get home is seeing this

My lovely daughter Whitney. I didnt have a more recent photo on the iPad except for last years graduation.

Friday Fragments - Vacation/TV/Anything Else?

Friday Fragment time.

I read an article today about how Americans don't take all their vacation time. Especially when compared to European workers. Did you know that vacation days are MANDATED in Europe? Can you imagine someone telling a company you have to let someone have 28 days of vacation? That's what it is in England. Americans look at that and laugh. How many of us take all of our vacation time? I know I don't. I've got so much built up that it is ridiculous. But we all either feel guilty for taking it or we don't have money to take a vacation or we feel like the pile up of work isn't worth the time off. I'm going to try and do my best this year to take time off. Starting in a little over 4 weeks I'll be off work for 2+ weeks. Crossing my fingers that I'll do my part to get America in line with European vacations!

TV seasons are coming to an end. Two of my new dramas got renewed (Revenge and Person of Interest) and two were not renewed (Alcatraz and Prime Suspect). Revenge ends next week and I tell you if you haven't watched it, do yourself a favor and catch up over the summer. It is getting moved to Sunday when Desperate Housewives aired so that should tell you its a soap opera deluxe.

Whitney had surgery yesterday (number 5) on her tear duct. We really hope that this is the one to work.  She did really well and even went to a picnic today for her old high school physics group.

I was also told that I needed to blog by Whitney. Always good to have the child insist you blog so she can read it. Guess that means I'm not too embarassing in what I write.

I just heard a radio commercial for the "real Penn State University." Is there a fake Penn State University?

We finally bought a new lawn mower. It is still in the box in the back of Dan's car but it is bought. And I planted roses by the mailbox. Let's see how long it takes for me to kill them.
