Friday Fragments - Finally It Feels Like Fall

The weather finally got colder. Although I didn't expect it to be 35 degrees this morning. Somehow we are skipping the 60-70 range. It's going to be a cold one for all those football people Saturday night as our game is on national tv. I'll be watching in the comfort of my home with a fire going. See I'm smart like that.

I've even turned on the space heater in my office. One of the best gifts Dan has given me for Christmas. I work in an ice box.

I'm doing a bible study on Jonah and last night something struck me. So time to ponder on it for awhile.

Don't you love it when you think you've been doing extra for someone and then they send an email saying they aren't getting any support from you at all. What's up with that? Now they definitely won't be getting anything extra from me.

If you watch College Gameday on ESPN this weekend, you'll see part of our beautiful campus. They are actually going to be in a pretty spot instead of the last time they were here and were at the track.

In one week I'll be in Washington DC. I'm sure all the pretty leaves will have been knocked off the trees from the storm that is coming their way. Darn, I was hoping to see beauty.

Stupid criminal of the week was a bank robber who turned around and went back to the bank to complain they hadn't given him the $20K he asked for. The police were there investigating and arrested him. Lesson to be learned...don't complain about the money you just stole.

This is as close to pumpkin carving as I will come this year so enjoy!

Hodgepodge - Do We Really Need to Talk About the Weather?

1. How often do you check the weather? How do you check the weather?

Well I work with weather people so I'm surrounded by it all the time. And to answer everyone's question, I don't know the forecast. I figure someone at work will tell me if I need to know something. I was obsessive about the forecasts for my trip though for packing purposes.

2. Since this is volume 84 of the Wednesday Hodgepodge, and since I (Joyce) got married in 1984, and since I'm (Joyce) attending a wedding this weekend it only seems right to post something related here.

Not a fan of anything written over 100 years ago because I never understand what they are saying. So I don't know how to answer.

3. Do you like to dance? Have you ever taken dance lessons?

I like to dance. On my list of things to do before I turned 40 was to learn how to tango. So our university had a ballroom dance club that did lessons once a week. I went and learned the basic steps to the tango and a few other dances. Can I do them now? I have no idea. One of my friends was in the class and he is a big ballroom dancer. He says I'd be fine but I'm afraid I would embarass myself. I do embarass Whitney if I try and do dances even in the house. She looks at me like I'm crazy. No one seems to think its cute except me.

4. Fresh from the oven peach pie or home made peach ice cream? Pick one.

Hmmm. I like a real peach but the only peach pie or ice cream I've had is store bought so they weren't that good. I have nothing for comparison.

5. Should people accept unfairness and learn to make the best of it?

Life is unfair. Get over it.

6. The top five all time summer movie blockbusters (released between May and August and grossing at least 100 million dollars) are-Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars (the original), Ghostbusters, and ET. Which one's your favorite?

Star Wars has a special spot in my heart since it was the first PG rated movie I ever saw. My mother said that if Amy Carter (the President's daughter) could see it, I could see it. I remember the excitement of the theater and I knew it was something special. Plus a young Harrison Ford is just too cute.

7. If given the chance, would you like to visit the moon?

Nope, don't want to be in a rocket ship or go to the moon or anywhere in space.

Whitney moves back to her dorm in 27 days. Since it is a different dorm than last year she needs new bedding (full size bed) and bathroom stuff (her own full size bathroom). Definitely her own style instead of mine.

That Crazy Oklahoma Weather

This seems to be a running theme in my blogs...the weather. But once again, that old saying "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes" continues to come true here. After experiencing some lovely 80 degree days with nights in the 60's and windows opened (yeah), we hit 100 degrees yesterday. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 60 degrees for a high. Yes that is a 40 degree temperature swing. And then we'll be back in the 90's for the weekend.

As much as I appreciate and love the cooler temperatures, I sure would appreciate a slower swing. I keep feeling like I'm getting a cold and I know it is because of the weather.

Weather Report

So you remember how last week I was ragging on my neighbor for not taking down the Christmas decorations since we had been having lovely weather in the 80's? Over the weekend, our temperatures took a nosedive and we barely made 40 degrees on Sunday. I drove by some people trying to plant new bushes and thought they were all going to die. I know it is said that never trust the weather in Oklahoma because it will change on you instantly and man is that true. I'm hoping that we get some rain with this cold because we need to get out of a drought. When it warms up again we'll start having the grass fires that are absolutely horrible and fast moving with all the cedar trees and dry grass.
