Attending church in the face of protest

My church has been "chosen" as a protest site by the Kansas church that likes to protest anything and everyone that doesn't see things their way. My church was founded on Ephesians 3:20, "God can do anything you know - far more than you can ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams. He does it by not pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us." I'm not sure why this other church has decided that we need protesting. Maybe it is because my church does not judge people, includes all, and honors God. I was worried about attending church but decided that I can't let these people scare me. It is better to show a good example of faith and worship and love than it is to run scared. I choose to love.

December is upon us

So it is December 1. Are you ready for the month? I am. I have all the decorating done, most of the shopping (just waiting for the deliveries to show up) and have most of the cooking figured out. Perhaps it is because we are going on a vacation or maybe it is just that I'm organized, but I feel in control right now. Others in the household may be running around like a chicken with its head cut off (a festive visual I'm sure) but I'm pretty calm.

Check with me in a couple of weeks and I'll see if it still the same.

Shopping in my pj's

I've always thought that people who shop on Black Friday are crazy. One reason is I have never purchased large quantities of items or lots of expensive items that make the sales worthwhile. Plus crowds bother me, especially pushy crowds. So I stay home and laugh at all those people. With the invention of the internet however, I can participate in most of the sales. I woke up, put my robe on over my pj's, logged into the internet, surfed a few shopping sites, found the sales, clicked a couple more buttons, and wham I was done shopping. Free shipping so I actually saved money but not driving anywhere.

I love the internet.

Deadlines

I don't understand how some people can't follow deadlines. The dates are set for a reason. If I say something is due at a certain time, that doesn't mean read the email and go "oh, I guess I should have mailed it sooner." It doesn't mean to ignore me either.

It is not my job to be your mother and tell you that you have to have something in by a certain time and if you don't you will be punished. Unfortunately that seems to be "other duties as assigned" in my job description.

Round and round sushi

When I take a business trip, I like to eat local. So I do research before I go. I knew I wanted seafood and no one else in my family likes sushi so I decided that was what I wanted. So I went to a place that was near my hotel called Blue C. It is a Japanese style sushi place with a conveyor belt that takes all the different kinds (labeled for us regular people) and you take the ones you want off the line. They are on different colored plates and they charge you by the color. Being a single made it easy to get a space on the line. I even used the chopsticks they gave you without dropping a single one. I enjoyed the spectacle of the whole thing along with some tasty sushi.

My favorite time of year

I LOVE fall! It is everything I could ask for in weather: warm temperatures during the day, crisp temperatures at night. I actually enjoy going outside during the day. I open the windows at night and let the real air flow through the house. I enjoy the rain that knocks the leaves off the trees. I really like fall leaves but we don't get a lot of that here. I wish I could find a place that it was like this all the time.

Trying to do the right thing

Over the last few weeks I've been auditing an account at work. Huge amounts of money and I'm off from the 'official" number by less than .2% but still have to figure it out. In the course of my audit I have found that the university is not charging me enough for a certain type of position. In fact, they aren't really charging me at all.

Now I could be greedy and say too bad for the university, but instead I'm trying to do the right thing. I want to be charged more money because otherwise all of my accounting is wrong. I want to pay my fairshare of costs.

So what happens? I get the run around. And I'm not talking a little run around. I'm talking dog chashing its tail in circles run around. I may have found a solution for part of the problem. But I shouldn't have to do this much work to do the right thing.

I can see why people give up.
