Hodgepodge - About Time I Do This Again

So after a few weeks off, I decided to join back in. Maybe it will help kickstart my thought process for blogs.

1. Spring is in the air (at least in my neck of the woods) and the birds are singing...what's your favorite bird?
I like birds, I really do. I just never know what type of bird I'm looking for. I can recognize a cardinal and a hummingbird. That's about it. So I like those because I know what they are when I see them. I do enjoy when the hummingbirds come to visit our feeder. I probably should get that out now.

2. Speaking of birds...do you tweet? If so tell us your screen name and we'll come flocking to your Twitter site. Even if you don't let's all pretend here that we do-in 140 characters or less, sum up your week so far.
I signed up a couple of weeks ago and don't know how to use it. LOL. I have tweeted one thing and I have one follower (not my husband). I don't even know how to login...good thing my ipad has everything saved. I don't know what my screen name is either. Is is with the @ sign? This is so sad. :( I feel inept.

So in 140 characters my week: Sunny no tornado Piles of work never end Vaca 60 days away

3. Its been reported recently that employers are not only viewing the facebook pages of potential hires but they're also requesting your facebook password to have a look at what you've kept from public view. What say you?
There is no way anyone should be asking for passwords. That is just wrong and I would tell someone no if they asked. However I don't have a problem with people looking at facebook pages of potential hires. If it is public, then it is public. Just like googling someone's name. I don't have a problem with that either.

4. It's April and you know what that means-Major League Baseball is back in action. What's your favorite baseball movie? If that's too hard, what's your favorite sports themed movie?
Do I have to list just one? Geez. Dan and I quote baseball movies all the time.

Bull Durham has to be the favorite though. Chock full of quotes. Just watch it and tell me you don't chuckle when they are on the mound trying to figure out what to get someone for a wedding gift, fix someone's hitting curse and breath through eyelids.

Field of Dreams is a close second. All you need to do is hear James Earl Jones say "Baseball" and you know. It gives you goosebumps. Of course that movie always makes me cry.
Both of them have Kevin Costner although that isn't my reason for liking them.

Then there is A League of Their Own. It's a simple game...You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball.
Can you tell I like baseball movies? Probably because baseball is my favorite sport.

5. Something else this season brings-asparagus. Yes please or no thanks? If it's yes please what's your favorite way to have it prepared?
I dislike asparagus. I've tried to like it but just don't.

6. What drives you? (Don't you love how I sandwiched that one in between asparagus and jugglers???)
I think I'll be a smart aleck here and say my 2009 Honda Civic Coupe!

7. April 18th is International Jugglers Day...can you juggle?
Does juggling projects count? I have to juggle money in my head. I think that counts so yes I can juggle!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Whitney won the housing lottery. Well it isn't like they were giving away a house. But she did get the room type and roommate she wanted for next year. They have a double with a shared living space. Each girl had their own bathroom. Can you imagine having that luxury in a dorm when you were in college? They have a little kitchen too. Their theme: Disney/Sorority (won't say which one). Quite a combination I know. Whitney has already started buying Disney plates/cups. She is so cute sometimes.

  1. I love A League of Their Own! My favorite quote is: "THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!"

  3. Have you ever watched For Love of the Game...also Kevin Costner and its a good one!

Glad your daughter got the housing she wanted. My youngest graduates next month so naturally we're moving her into a new apt. It's what we do. Move kids. : )

  4. Diane beat me too it. Quote included. Pooldad and I are forever saying to eachother "There's no crying in baseball!"

Baseball live is a definite MUST. I love our Nats. So glad to have baseball back. Who is your favorite team? I always like to have a back up game to watch if the Nats aren't on TV - so I will happily root your team on if you let me know! :) Hopefully we can get tickets this summer. Sometimes we get great seats from Pooldad's work, so fingers crossed :) My profile pic on my blog is one of the three of us at a game in all our bling!

Asparagus a resounding YES! Grilled is our favorite. I swear I could make a meal out of it straight of the grill. But I will eat it any ol way. Love, love, love it.

I went to one of the oldest Universities in the US, and housing was scarce, so you really do "win" the lottery if you get housing at all [except freshman year, that's a given to all]. Although a few of the places I lived soph/jun year were in the original buildings they had refurbished part of each dorm room so we had our own bathroom, a huge room, but with the original molding, doors [great wood!] and stone walls. It was cool. Senior year I finally opted for newer housing and won a campus apt. where the 4 of us had our own room/bath a living room, dining room and kitchen with floor to ceiling windows. It was pretty posh I have to say. Squirrel choose to live off campus in new student townhome living with 3 of her friends and it is the same set up I had my senior year. She is so excited to have a big bedroom [full sized bed!] with her own bath and FINALLY a kitchen. Their dining hall is voted #1 in the country, and it is great food, but she loves to cook and misses so many things we have at home. I am very excited for Whitney and her decor sounds adorable and right up her alley. Email me and tell me more if you get a chance. :)

And my week in 140 characters?

I lost 2 days and I don't know where to find them. Easier when twittr counts to 140 for me. hee

I am SkippyMom1 there, but hardly ever tweet because honestly who cares what I am doing? I might start up when I have to go in for treatments to keep the family and friends updated - if I feel up to it. It will be easy to do on the phone. Except now I will have to get a phone. oops!

And I could care less who googles me or looks at my facebook, but NO I am not giving my password to anyone, ever. I don't care how bad I need a job. Personally I would distrust a company that would distrust someone that much, then again there are all kinds of people in this world that are liars, cheats and thieves so you almost can't blame them for trying to cover their behinds.

Talk to you soon. Really loved the hodgepodge.

  6. Thanks for the pics of Kevin Costner. "Bull Durham" is my favorite too...he sure made some good baseball movies, didn't he?

College dorms are so nice now! Maybe that's why our kids graduate expecting so much... nice homes, cars, etc. Just saying! ha

    Have a great day!

  7. When my oldest went to college, the university had just opened up a new dorm, but we wouldn't let him stay in that one because 1) it was $1000 more/semester and, 2) there's a bathroom in every room. How are they suppose to get out and meet new people if they don't share bathrooms with everybody on the hall???
I completely forgot about "A League of Their Own"! There's no crying in baseball! (That's just about the only line I remember from that movie!)

  8. Dorm rooms certainly have come a long way from the two story cinder block building with two bathrooms and telephone in the hallway, that I lived in. They are now the lap of luxury, I say!

  9. What a great way to start university life, having such a nice dorm. They've come a long way.
I agree with everything you said about facebook. It's outrageous that an employer would have the nerve to even think they had the right to ask for a password.
